Action Bronzes |
| Some of the monuments contain
bronze artwork depicting action scenes of the battle. Since many of
these were made in consultation with the participants, they represent as
close a view of the action as you can get short of photography. The
detail in some of these is incredible. Each page shows an
overall view of the monument, as well as a close up of the entire bronze.
Some of these close-ups contain "hotspots" which show additional details.
A map of the monument's location is also shown. As you can see from the list
below this was basically a union undertaking, with Ohio taking the prize.
Michigan only did two, but boy are they great. No thumbnails are
included on this page since they can't show enough detail to be very
helpful. I finally think that I've got them all. I am
discriminating against a few cavalry bronzes which just show a lone
cavalryman standing or riding. Note that in many of the bronzes the soldiers are not always standing up in two ranks - they are kneeling, lying down, and otherwise making use of available cover. It also must have been a state law that every man from Ohio had to wear a moustache. |
